Job Description: Full time and  Key Personnel position

 

A need exists for three Naval Special Warfare Head Physical Training Instructors to support the yet to be
awarded Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Preparatory Course Training and Support Services contract in
Great Lakes, IL. They will work in three disciplines: Swimming, Running, Strength & Conditioning.

Job purpose

The Physical Training Instructors shall provide instruction and coaching to students in the Naval Special

Warfare Preparatory Course. The persons for these positions shall have daily contact with junior sailors.
As such, they must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with these sailors;
and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the Physical Training Instructors, and
provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to achieve the
desired degree of student preparation to accomplish program goals.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Perform and supervise physical training modules with students

  • Demonstrate the points of performance for the exercises associated with the PST, as well as ensure exercises are being performed to the established standards. Perform physical testing IAW with established guidelines set forth in OPNAVINST 6110.1H (Physical Readiness Program)

  • Prepare students for success in SEAL, and SWCC selection and training pipelines by working with applicants to maximize their potential in aquatics and physical training modules. This shall include guidance and application of physical preparedness and training techniques for the PST

  • Use the NSWCEN Detachment Great Lakes OIC and subordinate active duty members assigned to the Preparatory Course as the source of information for SEAL and SWCC training in order to train, brief, and inform students of changes in these programs

  • Recommend solutions to establish and maintain database/spreadsheet records of NSWCEN students and their status in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course, specifically in regard to students’ performance on the PST

  • Implement the established academic curriculum provided by the NSWCEN

  • Mentor NSWCEN students to increase awareness of physical standards for NSWCEN programs

  • Provide medical attention to include, but not limited to, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices while awaiting EMT Paramedics on scene

  • Facilitate training modules in front of candidates in various forums to include, but not limited, to pool decks, classrooms, workout facilities, and podium lectures

  • Plan and execute exit critiques. Collate results into a per class report, along with providing recommendations for curriculum changes based on critique results. Exit critique results shall be gathered from students exiting the Preparatory Course. Report will be generated and sent to the OIC

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S). or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field or 4 years equivalent experience working as an instructor or physical fitness leader in a similar field and environment

  • Each Water/Swim coach shall have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working as a water/swim coach/instructor in a training environment

  • It is desired that each water/swim coach have one (1) year of Swim Coaching experience at a competitive level (club, collegiate, or Olympic)

  • Each Run Coach shall have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience as a run coach/instructor in a training environment

  • Each Strength and Conditioning coach shall have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience working as a strength and conditioning coach/instructor in a training environment

  • It is a requirement for the Physical Training Instructors, including the Leads, to successfully complete the High-Risk Training Course (HRTC), or an executive level HRTC in accordance with NSWCEN policy. Successful completion shall be within 30 days of contract award and/or employment under the contract; or when first offered by NSWCEN, whichever is later, as a term of employment. NSWCEN is responsible to teach this course and for determining all qualifications for course completion. Instructors are required to pass the course

  • Required to meet minimum PST standards within 30 days of reporting IAW current MILPERS MAN 1220-410 SWCC candidate standards. Physical Training Instructors shall maintain a fitness level and be prepared to pass same standards on a yearly basis

  • A valid and current CPR/AED certification

  • A valid and current American Red Cross Certification

  • Shall possess at a minimum Level 3 Swim Coach as recognized by the American Swim Coach Association

  • All contract personnel shall undergo a National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC) background check prior to employment

Job Description: The Program/Course Manager will provide program and course management to the
Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Program/Course and will also serve as a Lead Instructor to physically
train and mentally prepare SEAL and SWCC candidates for successful completion of their respective
completion courses.

 

Clearance/Security: National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC) background
check prior to employment

 

Experience and Education:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Administration (B.A.) in Business, Management, Administration, Finance, Operations Management, Human Resource Management, Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related physical training field

  • Three (3) or more years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience in a Program/Course Manager role

  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a physical training instructor in a training environment

  • Valid and current CPR/AED certification plus American Red Cross Certification

  • Valid/current driver’s license

  • Willing to sign an NDA

Preferred

  • Experience managing an effort of equivalent size and scope to this requirement in a SOF environment 

  • Previous NSW experience with an understanding of the NSW pipeline

  • Experience maintaining a close working relationship with a COR and active duty staff, to include collaboration on all aspects of the course curriculum

  • Maintenance of accurate records of student information that includes travel activity, PST testing and results in the designated Government system

  • Familiarity with all aspects of the job, test sites, and Centers of Influence (i.e. Recruit Training Center (RTC), Naval Training Center (NTC), Training Support Center, NSWCEN, other supporting entities) in their relationship to the operation of NSW Preparatory Course

  • Experience ensuring that training management is conducted in accordance with OPNAV, SOCOM, NSWC, and NSWCEN instructional directives and policies (all policies are held electronically and distributed by the military staff. (i.e. Drop/roll policy, drug/substance abuse, workplace violence and their application to students)

  • Capable of meeting the minimum PST standards within 30 calendar days of reporting IAW current MILPERS MAN 1220-410 SWCC candidate standards plus maintain a fitness level and be prepared to pass same standards on a yearly basis

  • Perform physical testing IAW with established guidelines set forth in MILPERSMAN 1220-410 (SEAL/EOD/SWCC/DIVER/AIRR PHYSICAL SCREENING TESTING STRANDARDS AND PROCEDURES

  • Supervision of administrative personnel, medical personnel and Physical Training Instructors (in conjunction with Lead Instructors)

  • Manage training activities (the P/CM is not required to be at every training evolution but shall maintain strict oversight of each instructor’s performance through the Lead Physical Training Instructors

  • Ensure all instruction is being carried out in accordance with established curriculum, to include safety aspects of the training evolution and fulfillment of curriculum guidelines

  • Oversee the implementation of the established academic curriculum

  • Ensure physical and classroom evolutions are properly staffed, to include ensuring that required instructor/student ratios (currently ranging from 1:1 to 1:25) are maintained

  • Coordinate and ensure that the appropriate medical coverage is present and available for students at each physical evolution

  • Evaluation of Physical Training Instructors to ensure physical evolutions are being conducted in

  • accordance with approved curriculum to minimize injuries and maximize candidate success

  • Manage cycles of students arriving and departing based on convening class capacity, student flow, and completion of course requirements

  • Implementation and execution of curriculum, to include control documents; test plan; lesson plan; trainee guide; high-risk evolution documents; administrator guides; and evolution brief sheets and matrixes

  • Submission of course improvement and innovation change proposals through the COR for review and approval prior to implementation

  • Review exit critiques and provide recommendations in a per class report to the COR

  • Provide an as-needed report to the COR on contractor issues and command climate

  • Communicate observations and trends of testing results, as requested, to the COR to provide feedback focused on better preparation of applicants in training

  • Assist candidates in understanding the NSW selection pipeline, its requirements, and how to best prepare them for the selection process

  • Possess the ability to demonstrate and explain all points of performance of exercises included in the Physical Standards Test and exit test

  • Instruction and coaching to students in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course with adherence to the highest standards of conduct in interaction with sailors

  • Must understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the Physical Training Instructors, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to achieve the desired degree of student preparation to accomplish program goals

  • Successful completion of the High Risk Training Course (HRTC), or an executive level HRTC in accordance with NSWCEN policy within 30 calendar days of contract award and/or date of hire

  • Assist candidates in understanding the NSW selection pipeline, its requirements, and how to best prepare them for the selection process

  • Experience as an NSW operator

 

Travel: estimated at 10%
